I'm self-employed and my husband is the main breadwinner for our family. Even though I largely work on a part-time basis, I have enough income to be self-sufficient. This is important to me because I have a soft spot for online retail therapy! Sheepish grin.
After having a baby, he occupies my heart, my mind, and also my wallet! It's hard not to feel an urge to indulge in my little boy when I see baby clothes, toys, and books. And because resources are limited, it means I need to be more mindful about what I spend on. Sometimes I choose my baby, but there are also times when I choose to indulge in myself.
It could be eating my favourite bowl of bara chirashi don, enjoying a cuppa at Starbucks, or buying a new dress online. Little indulgences here and there to give me a pick-me-up and reward myself for surviving a long night. It really doesn't have to be a competition between you and baby. You could indulge both, and even when you do choose to splurge on yourself on occasions instead of getting something for your baby, there's absolutely nothing wrong! Be kinder to yourself because you deserve so much more. It's tough to be a mummy. Remember to love yourself as much as you love your little one.
A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. - Proverbs 11:17
