Willie Smith's Apple Shed
Opens daily 10 am to 4 pm.
Location: 2064 Huon Hwy, Grove TAS 7109
There is a small museum on site and admission is free. Even though the space is not big, it is packed full of very interesting exhibits!
We never knew that there were hundreds of different types of apples around! And there were over 400 types found in Willie Smith's very own backyard! Amazing!
The kids had fun reading the different names of the apples and having a chance to hold them too!
We saw really ancient but cool machinery that was being used as part of the apple picking and sorting process. It was an eye-opening experience for both the young and old!
Apart from learning about the history of Willie Smith's apple shed and how apple picking and sorting have evolved over the years, don't forget to check out their exclusive merchandise, and more importantly, have a snack or meal here!
There is quite a wide range of cakes and snacks available. But of course, you cannot miss their signature apple crumble!
Always finding photo opportunities for my kiddos!
There is is! The traditional apple crumble with real apple slices! It is way sweeter than the ones I am used to, and the apple slices are a little sour. But the overall taste is delicious! You can certainly taste the home-made goodness in the pies!
The cheesecake was creamy but light, and it went very well with the vanilla ice cream too!
Not to forget a very warm and comforting glass of apple tea on a cold winter's day!
You can also enjoy apple cider tasting from $12!
No matter where we go, there is always time for wacky selfies.
The Honey Pot at Huon Valley
October to April: Daily 9am to 5 pm
May to September: Daily 10 am to 4 pm
Location: 273 Huon Highway
A giant honey pot outside the shop!
Right at the entrance of the shop, we were greeted by live bees! Be sure to catch the bees crossing through pipes that lead out of their box hive!
Busy bumble bees buzzing up close!
Grab a honey lollipop, a honey flavored ice cream or a hot coffee for a relaxing break indoors.
There is a very wide range of honey that is available. This is certainly a great place to bring home some unique souvenirs and gifts for your family and friends!
At the Honey Pot, you find different types of honey for different purposes, ranging from raw honey, to processed honey, and even honey in a tube to help with wound healing and moisturizing purposes. In addition, you can also find various merchandise that got the kids rather excited!
This is my favorite corner in the shop -- the honey tasting section! Feel free to try our the different types of honey available before deciding on your purchases!
It is also wonderful that they have a small setup for the kids to do some coloring to keep the little hands busy!
